Fall 2011 Applicants: Keep an eye on the Calendar!

The final deadline for application to UT Austin and to Plan II Honors for fall 2011 freshman admission is December 1, 2010, with no exceptions.

Plan II Honors recommends that all applicants apply well before DECEMBER 1, 2010. If there are problems with your application we have time to help you complete your application before the deadline.

Applying late in the application cycle (after November 15) is quite likely to adversely affect an applicant’s likelihood of admission. Plan II reviews application in the order the applications are completed and conducts “rolling” admissions. We will begin offering admission for the fall 2011 as early as the end of October, 2010. Therefore, fewer spots are available as we move closer to the deadline. Obviously, competition will be stiffer as fewer spots are available.

However, rushing to complete an application in early August isn’t necessarily the wisest approach under any circumstances. A careful review and edit of your application materials, particularly the essays and the expanded résumé, is far, far more important than getting the application completed and submitted in August or September. There is very little difference in submitting your application by August 15 and submitting your application by October 15. An application with strong essays and a more detailed résumé submitted on November 3 is more likely to earn an admission offer than an application submitted on September 1 with uninteresting, superficial essays.

It’s only when an applicant waits until after November 1—and especially if an applicant waits to submit until after November 15—that the timing of the submission becomes a real issue in admissibility.

Plan II will not review ANY applications until at least the end of September. So there is no reason to feel compelled to submit an application before September 15, 2010.
